Marcel
Jorquera Vinyals

Countertenor

During his childhood in Barcelona, Marcel studied twelve years of modern oboe and sang in a children's choir. After graduating high school, he completed a BSc in Genetics and an MSc in Scientific Communication at the University of Barcelona. In this same period, he was part of the Youth Choir of the Palau de la Música and the Catalan National Youth Choir, institutions with which he worked with musicians such as Simon Halsey, Sir Simon Rattle, Josep Vila, Filippo Maria Bressan, Lluís Vilamajó and Gianandrea Noseda.

Apart from the best-known works from the Early Music field, Marcel's favourite repertoire is madrigals for several voices and the lute songs from the period encompassing the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque, with a particular interest in Italian music. He has produced, conducted, and performed in various projects with Fonos, Stile Spezzato, and Lettere in Musica, organizations specializing in this and other repertoire for small vocal ensembles.

Being an enthusiastic learner of languages, Marcel is driven to vocal music through the text, the sound of the words, and the poetic nuances of the expressions. These reasons drive him to design programs where poetry and storytelling are put in the centre.

Another field he is very passionate about is traditional songs, especially in Catalan or in other languages that nowadays are minoritized.
